Social Dancing Track
Day & Time: MONDAYS, 8:30-10 PM
There are two lessons. Each lesson will consist of 2 dance styles and each dance style will be taught for 45 minutes.
Dances:Waltz, Salsa,Rumba, Argentine Tango, East Coast swing, Hustle, Foxtrot, Cha-Cha, West Coast Swing, Tango.
The social dancing lessons are intended for all dancers who are interested
in dancing as a hobby. Neither dance experience nor partner is required to
attend the lesson. This dance will be taught by the students.
Competitive Dancing track
There will be four lessons based on
dancers' experience. All four lessons will be focusing on International
style rather than the American style. The different types of lessons are:-
FUNdamental Technique Class
Day & Time :WED 7-8 PM
Taught by professionals. Will focus on building the essential
technique of the dances (the stuff that makes your dancing look good)
rather than the steps.
The lessons will cover Rumba, Waltz, Jive, and Tango.
Bronze Lessons(SAME from Fall 09)
NEW TIME: WED 8-9 PM
The goal of the Bronze lesson is to cover all the Bronze steps in ISTD
syllabus. Therefore, dancers are expected to know basic techniques and the
rhythm of the dances before attending the lessons. If you are unfamiliar
with the dance, be sure to attend the first lesson when the instructor
will give a brief introduction about the dance. Tryouts are not required
for the Bronze level.
The Bronze lessons will cover Foxtrot, Cha-Cha, Quickstep,
and Samba.
Silver Lessons
Day &Time:WED 6-7 PM.
Requirement:Complete knowledge of the Bronze syllabus and technique and are able to dance competitively at the Bronze level.
The goal is to go
over all the steps in the Silver level.Tryouts are
required. It is recommended to attend the Technique
class (coming after the Silver Lessons on Wednesdays).
Silver lessons will cover Samba, Foxtrot, Cha-Cha,
Quickstep, and Viennese Waltz.
Gold Lessons
Day and time: MONDAY, 6:30-8:00 PM
Requirement:Knowledge
of Bronze and Silver syllabus and are able to dance competitively at the
Silver level.
The goal is to prepare dancers to compete in
the Silver and Gold levels.
Tryouts are required for attendance, able to dance competitively, and have the correct
techniques for all styles of dances.
Gold lessons will cover Rumba, Foxtrot, Jive, and
Quickstep.
Tryouts:
Individual dance
tryouts will occur before each new set of dance lessons.
Why do we need tryouts?
-To allow for a smoothly taught class where the instructor can assume that
you know basic steps in the previous levels
-To allow more material to be covered during classes (by avoiding the
teaching of lower level steps)
The benefit of the Early tryout is that if you do not make tryouts for
a particular level, you will have comments from the judges and a
months worth of time to practice to tryout again at Regular Tryouts.
How each tryout will work:
Silver Lesson Tryouts:
Takes place before each new dance set. You may
tryout for as few as 1 dance, however pricing for the Silver lessons will
still be $10 more than Basic membership regardless of how many of the
dances you make.
Gold Lesson Tryouts:
-You may tryout for as few as 1 dance, however pricing for the Gold
lessons will still be $20 more than Basic membership regardless of how
many of the dances you make.
We Recommend that you tryout if:
-You feel proficient in most of the Bronze and Silver steps, know the
rhythm and know the basic techniques of the dance
-You have attended a competition in the Silver level (or above)
-You have attended classes for the dance in the Silver level and feel
confident to move on
-You pick up steps quickly and have time to practice and prepare for each
lesson.
Notes: Admittance to the Gold level class implies admittance to the Silver
level class of the same dance (applies to Foxtrot and Quickstep). This way
you don't have to do both the Silver AND Gold tryout for it.
Dilema what to choose!
You took only social lessons last fall then continue in
the social lessons (now Monday,8:30-10 PM) and to go to the Technique
classes and Bronze classes on Wednesday (7-8, 8-9 PM).
You took Bronze lessons last fall then try out for Silver
lessons (you will be tested to see if you know the steps taught in the
Bronze lessons in the Fall) and attending the Technique classes on
Wednesday (7-8 PM). For Silver Tryouts, review the Bronze review videos!
You took Silver lessons last fall then try out for the
Silver class and Gold class. You should take the
Silver class and also take the Technique class right afterwards (7-8 PM).
If you've forgotten the
bronze steps for Samba, Foxtrot, Cha-Cha, and Quickstep, please check the
review videos.
