We offer a variety of lessons, ranging from social dancing to competitive dances and performances. If youÕre looking to get your feet wet in social dancing, come join our Social dance classes during Wednesdays! In these classes, we teach American Style social dances as well as latin club dances such as Salsa, Merengue and Argentine Tango. More interested in the competitive dances? Come Mondays and learn dances like Quickstep, International Tango, and Paso Doble.
Beginner level classes are open to absolute beginners. Intermediate level classes are suitable for more experienced dancers who are looking forward to learn more challenging moves, or have already taken 3 weeks of beginner classes in that particular style.
If you are quite experienced with ballroom and want to dive into the more advanced, technical side of ballroom, contact an officer about taking classes with our competitive team. (These are the Newcomer, Bronze, and Silver lessons mentioned below.)

By becoming a basic member, you enjoy the benefits of attending our Social and Newcomer classes, which are all open to complete beginners, and taught by our advanced students.
If you are enthusiastic and want to progress faster, we encourage you to talk to the officers to attend the harder lessons in addition to the ones at your current level. Hard work and practice can go a long way in progressing your dancing and will get you ready for tryouts for Bronze and Silver lessons, which are conducted by professional instructors. Also, definitely ask experienced members about steps and technique outside of the lessons if you have questions! (Or even sign up for a private lesson!)
Extra practice: Extra Practice times are available after the lessons from 9:30-10:30 PM where we play music nonstop for you to practice or just dance with your fellow club members!
Our beginner lessons are perfect for those absolutely new to ballroom, as well as for established dancers to learn more dances! With one social lesson and one international lesson taught each week, participation in the beginner lessons in one semester will allow you to learn 8 dances over the course of the semester.

This is a level up from the Beginner Social lessons. For three weeks, we will teach the style of dance that we taught in the previous three weeks during Beginner Social lessons. Sometimes, these lessons will be taught by professionals! We request that you have had previous experience in the dance style being taught, or have taken all three weeks of the Beginner level class taught.
This is a level up from the Beginner International lessons. For three weeks, we will teach the style of dance that we taught in the previous three weeks during Beginner International lessons. We request that you have had previous experience in the dance style being taught, or have taken all three weeks of the Beginner level class taught.
We hire two local professionals to come in and teach lessons that are more focused on technique of various levels. The three levels are Newcomer, Bronze, and Silver. These classes move at the pace of the students and dances are taught at the discretion of the instructor.
Learn the international style of ballroom dancing that's done all over the world! Our professional instructors will teach you all the moves and technique to do HOT latin dances (such as Rumba, Cha-cha, Samba, Jive and Paso Doble) and to glide with standard dances (such as the Quickstep, Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Viennese Waltz). With two half-hour classes featuring different dances every week, no experience is necessary and we'll teach you everything you need to know! The catch? Be ready to be dedicated and come to as many of these classes as possible (they move fast!), and also be ready to absorb and practice technical details of each dance!
Continue learning the international style and brush up your new moves with technique to bring your dancing to the next level! The bronze classes this semester feature different dances, but teach technique applicable to dances you have learned before.
Note: Tryouts are required to attend the Bronze classesÑknowledge of a list of newcomer steps must be demonstrated, as well as basic technique. It is highly recommended that dancers participating in these classes have an understanding of the dance being taught (knowledge of the rhythm of the dance and basic steps) as basic steps in the dance will not be explained in depth. Contact an officer to know whether this level is appropriate for you or not.
Our professionally taught Silver lessons will feature Silver level ISTD syllabus steps to advance your dancing in the international style! Pleases come half an hour early to warm up for this class.
Note: Tryouts are required to attend the Silver classesÑknowledge of a list of bronze steps must be demonstrated. At this level, we expect you to be quite knowledgeable about basic technique, and basic steps in the dance will not be explained in depth. Contact an officer to know whether this level is appropriate for you.
By popular demand, we're holding Salsa & Bachata lessons every Tuesday night. These will take place in Morewood Activities Room (which is located up the stairs in Morewood Dorm on 1060 Morewood Ave; will need CMU ID to get in, but they'll let you in if you tell them you're here for Salsa).
Salsa will be taught from 8:00-9:30pm, and Bachata will be taught from 9:30-10:00pm.
These will be $5/night, flat rate. However, your first night is free! No experience required!
For $35, you can schedule a private lesson with a student instructor of your choosing. These fees will go toward the club as a donation.
Private lessons are also offered by our professional coaches at their respective studios at their respective rates.
Please contact an officer about any of these inquiries.
